Fishing has always taken on many forms, continually evolving with the modern world. With that, fishing tackle has changed with it, and more variations in rods, reels, line, lures, terminal, tackle boxes, tools and accessories are available than ever before. As with all industries, change is often brought about by demand and as Anglers, we can be rather specific about what we desire when it comes to fishing gear.
Personally, I feel there is no contrasting product like the fishing rod. Infinite variations in lengths, weights, tapers, grips, guides, colours, finishes, cast weights, what reel balances on what rod? One piece? 2 piece? 3 piece? 4? 7?!
7, I say? Correct. ‘You’ve been drinking seawater again!’ I hear you cry.
That’s where I must disagree. Our favourite rod builders have been hard at work over the past years not only perfecting and producing some of the best blanks in the world but clearly pouring tonnes of effort into multi piece blanks and the technology surrounding them is getting seriously, SERIOUSLY good.
Long gone are the days of metal wrapped ferrules that warp or fat joins, loose joins, or multi piece travel rods or telescopic rods that hardly have any responsiveness or sensitivity left, let alone finding a model that caters to your needs.
The thing is, aren’t you tired of taking that 1 or 2 or single butt join rod on a bus? On the train? In a cab? Juggling it on the handlebars riding a bike? On a motorbike? Forget about it….
Jeez then there’s the cost of ‘extra’ or ‘oversized’ baggage at the airport, only to get to your destination to find your carefully packed, expensive rods have been damaged by "turbulence" and your trip’s ruined before it begins… Gimme a break! Heck, it’s happened to a lot of us and all of us have heard the stories….
I say NO MORE! I say YES to accessibility. YES to convenience. YES to more space at home. YES to less damaged rods from them getting in the way. YES to having my rods in my carry on luggage! I WANT a multi piece travel rod! I want all of my rods to be… I want the option of travelling how I want, where I want and I don’t want it to cost me more, risk damaging my gear or inconvenience someone else in the meantime. Thank the Fishing Gods that we can now have what we want WITHOUT SACRIFICING QUALITY!
Now with all things fishing, choice is broad, and travel rods make no acception. I decided to go ahead and try to make travel rod selection a little simpler for you and compiled all of our stock of Shimano Revolution and Zodias travel rods, Daiwa Wilderness and Wilderness X, Bone Voyage, Voyage X, Salt Finesse, Samaki and more and weighed and measured them. So now, you have a broad list of each rods packed length, its case length and whether it comes in a hard or soft case, as well as what it weighs in its case and also what the rod weighs by itself.
