The Penn Battle III paired with the Veritas Jig rods is an affordable, reliable offshore combo. This setup can cover a variety of offshore fishing techniques such as dropping baits for Snapper and Cobia, Downrigging livebaits for pelagics such as Kingfish and Mackerel or even trolling for Longtail Tuna, Mahi Mahi and larger Trevally. Despite all of its uses this setup is really made for jigging the wrecks and reefs found in Australian waters. The Veritas has a comfotable split butt design meaning you will be able to jig under the shoulder in comfort, the PE3-5 model is rated upto a jig weight of 230g making it an ideal rod to fish in just about any depth depending on conditions. The Penn Battle III has a full metal body, rubber o-rings and stainless steel ball bearings all working to the effect of keeping saltwater out of the reel, meaning the longevity of the reel is just about guaranteed even if heavily fished in salt water. Its carbon fibre dragwashers will outlast felt dragwashers which are often found in reels within its price range. The reel is spooled with 300m of 50lbs J-Braid x8 Mulitcoloured, meaning you can use the colour changes in the braid to keep track of where abouts you are fishing in the water column, especially important whilst jigging. Additoinally the thin diameter of J-Braid 50lbs will assist the angler whilst jigging as the lure faces less drag whilst being dropped, resulting in the lure reaching the bottom considerably faster. This is especially important when using lighter jigs in deeper water.
