This heavy game fishing combo is a perfect and versitile outfit, suitable for heavy marlin live baiting and trolling, and tuna trolling. It comes set up with either a Tiagra 50W LRSA or Tiagra 80WA reel (your choice when making the purchase) and either a Tiagra Hyper 37kg Straight Butt or Bent Bunt rod (once again your choice when purchasing) and spooled with Momoi IGFA 37kg Mono. The Tiagra 50W LRSA and 80WA reel is a very popular and sought after reel made by Shimano, made super strong and built to last you a lifetime of use. If you want maximum line capacity then the 80WA is a better option, but if you are after a lighter alternative and potentially want to change to 24kg line down the track, then the 50W LRSA is the better option. The Tiagra Hyper rods are made to suit, being fully rollered and a nice soft taper, suitable for any form of fishing. The Tiagra 80WA fits approx. 820m of 37kg Momoi IGFA Monofilament line and the 50W LRSA fits approx. 500m of 37kg Momoi IGFA Monofilament line, which is the best game fishing mono made, and suitable for IGFA Competition requirements.
This Combo comes with:
- Shimano Tiagra 50W LRSA OR 80WA Overhead Reel
- Shimano Tiagra Hyper 37kg Straight Butt OR Bent Butt Overhead Rod
- 37kg Momoi Mono (length depending on reel chosen)
As we all know, one of the fundamental aspects of this sport is that the fish we seek are capable of fighting for hours, repeatedly making long runs that can really heat up a drag. This can cause the settings to change, leading to insufficient pressure being put on a fish or, at worst, a broken line. Fortunately, Shimano's Hydrothermal Drag System automatically compensates for any heat buildup, thereby maintaining the original drag setting. What's more, the Tiagra's pre-lubricated graphite drag washer is impervious to salt water and will always operate smoothly. The leverage created by an angler in a game chair or stand-up rod bucket and harness with a big fish on the end of the line creates an enormous amount of pressure. That's why the Tiagra's one-piece frame is machine-cut from aluminium tube to a thickness of seven millimetres. It's also why Tiagra has A-RB bearings, heavy-duty stainless steel gears, and a two speed shifting mechanism where the pinion and drive gears are continuously meshed. The Shimano Tiagra also features a calibrated pre-set drag knob, which has detents that adjust in approximately half-pound increments. It is, however, only a reference guide to be used when setting the drag, and is no substitute for doing it through a loaded rod with a set of scales. At 89 decibels, the ratchet is also the loudest of any production reel. The Tiagra 'A' series feature heavy gold anodising, a drilled drag quadrant with a drag curve suited to Australian conditions, and a specially designed rubberised power handle. The heavier anodising makes them highly resistant to the ravages of salt water, while the click stop drag quadrant permits more precise drag adjustments. The counter-balanced handle falls easily to hand to make winding easier, and its rubberised 'tackiness' combats sweaty palms, which can be a problem during the course of a long fight or when fishing in tropical waters.

Shimanoâs Tiagra Hyper game rods have those desired custom features and performance, but at an off the rack price. The new X5 blanks these rods are built on have a reduced diameter, but higher torsional twist resistance and greater resistance to overloading. The Hyper series also features the strongest, lightest game fishing componentry available; Rollers are Aftco, with oversized tips, while the sword rod makes use of braid-friendly Fuji SiC fixed guides and tip. Butt configurations utilise Pac Bay Channel Lock Seats and custom detachable carbon butts, with the exception of the 37 and 60kg chair rods, which are Aftco Unibutts. Foregrips are Winn polymer that provide the custom build look and function, but without the price.
